Things I should have blogged in 2008. Part 2

Summer
  • Presented my first conference paper Applying Trends to Design: A Theoretical Framework at the industrial design workshop at Design 2008 in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Abstract here - contact me for the full paper. Also enjoyed the warm Dalmatian sunshine in the sleepy town of Cavtat...
  • Interviewed Rob Hall - the principal designer for Saitek, the computer gaming and consumer electronics developers based in Bristol.
  • Designed a t-shirt for the Cambridge University lacrosse club.
  • Presented How do designers make and justify product styling decisions in response to changing tastes and fashion? at the R&D Management conference in Ottawa. I stayed on in Canada to visit relatives and do some further interviewing.
  • Interviewed Cezary Gajewski - industrial designer, sculptor, and educator in Edmonton, Alberta.
  • Interviewed Jay Grandin and Leah Nelson of Giant Ant Media in Vancouver - they create adverts, documentaries and cool viral videos.
  • Interviewed South African designer Adrian van Wijk at JDI Design - an industrial design firm in Vancouver that specialises in eco-design.
  • Awesome day trip to Seattle - but I broke my beautiful Ixus 50 outside the original Starbucks!
  • Returned back to the UK and went straight to Sheffield for the Design Research Society Conference, presenting Trends and design: Relating literature to industry practice. Paper here.
